Admission

REGISTRATION:

Children who are registered with the School are eligible for the Entrance Test. Parents/ Guardians are advised to have the registration done in advance.  The Registration Fee at present is Rs 2,000/- and is not refundable. The Registration Form along with the Prospectus is  available at a cost of 350/-  or remitting  a sum of  500/- if ordered by post by submitting a  Demand Draft in  favour of the Principal , Assam Rifles Public  School, Laitkor, Shillong- 793010. The following age restrictions as per CBSE norms are strictly adhered to.

ACADEMIC SESSION :

The academic session of the school begins on the first day of April and ends on 31st of  March of the next year. There is winter break of approximate 50 days (Dec – Feb), a summer break of approx one month (Jun – July) and Puja break during October for about 8 – 10 days.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE :

The School has provision for approximately 400 boarders. 60% of seats are for the children of Assam Rifles Personnel including children of ex-servicemen and deceased Assam Rifles Personnel as per rules framed for the purpose. Non Assam Rifles children can avail the remaining 40% seats.

The class wise vacancies are filled up based on a Common Entrance Tests conducted in the months of December and February. There are different Test Centres all over the North East. The Entrance Tests are conducted in three subjects’ viz. English, Mathematics and Hindi followed by an interview for those who qualify and which are held at ARPS Laitkor. The test conducted is meant to assess the child’s aptitude, comprehension, computational and sociability etc. The syllabus and standard of question papers is that of the final examination of the immediate lower class.

Children are admitted in classes VI to IX. Admission to class XI is also considered depending upon the merit of the students based on their class X result and Entrance Test.  Entrance Test Question Papers of previous years can be had from the school office, subject to availability of stock. These serve as Model Question Papers.Admission is made strictly according to the order of merit attained by a student and subject to the availability of seats in the respective classes.  The order of merit is worked out separately for each Class.

A student who does not pass the test is not admitted even if a vacancy exists. Admission is subject to the student being found medically fit. Students with serious medical & heart ailments or epilepsy are not admitted as they may not stand the rigors’ of disciplined hostel life, and may not be able to participate in the compulsory co-curricular activities. If subsequently found to have such serious illness the parents may be asked to withdraw the student depending upon the gravity of the cases. No bed-wetter should be put into boarding. Students detected after admission as bed-wetters may be asked to be withdrawn. Fees paid for such bed-wetters will be forfeited as per withdrawal rules.

The date of birth mentioned in the Registration form should not contradict the date of birth indicated in the Transfer Certificate of the immediate previous school. The date of birth once accepted on the basis of these two documents shall be final and will not be changed / amended under any circumstance.  Parents may note that no subsequent request for change of date of birth of a student will be entertained.  The school reserves the right to admit or reject any child, notwithstanding anything stipulated in this prospectus.  Parents may note that any correspondence about admission of their son / ward must be done with the Principal only.

CHILDREN OF BPL CATEGORIES :

Every year, the North East Council (NEC) sponsors 23 (twenty three) students from the BPL categories (03 from each North Eastern state and 02 from Sikkim). Entrance tests for the NEC sponsored students are conducted along with those for the other children. 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION :

Parents /guardians must submit the following documents atthe time of admission. Quarterly installments may be permitted for payment of school dues as per the bill submitted by the school with the admission offer letter.

  • Original Transfer Certificate from the immediate previous school of the student showing the date of birth. Date of birth once accepted will not be amended / changed.
  • Attested copy of Birth Certificate issued by the Municipality Officer or concerned Government Dept. Affidavits will not be accepted.
  • Three copies of Passport size and one copy of thumb sized recent photograph of the student.
  • Duly filled in outfit measurement form (provided by the school).
  • Duly filled in and countersigned Health information form (provided by the school) to be filled up by a registered Medical Officer.
  • Duly filled in local guardian list form (provided by school). Subsequent change of local guardian is to be notified immediately along with change of telephone number, if any.
  • Original copy of the student’s Final Examination Progress Report of the previous school.
  • Migration Certificate (for Class XI students only).
  • Certificate of “Authenticity of Relationship” duly signed by the Commander of the Unit as per the prescribed Performa (applicable in case of children of Assam Rifles Personnel only).
  • Income Certificate signed by the DC / Addl DC or any other competent authority of the state and/or BPL certificate (applicable in case of children of BPL categories) whose education is sponsored by the NEC, Shillong.
  • Parents declaration, acceptance and agreement form, duly filled in (provided by the school).

NOTIFICATION :

Parents / Guardians of the selected students are notified vide registered post of the date by which the documents mentioned above are to be deposited with the school. If no response is received within the date fixed for the purpose it will be presumed that the offer has been declined and the seat will be offered to the other student from the awaiting list. However, the parents may call up the Principal for any query related to admissions and/or non receipt of notification.

CONVERSION RULES :

Conversion only of Assam Rifles Category Students belonging to local  Assam Rifles Units of Laitkor and Happy Valley from Boarder to Day Scholar and vice-versa ng the academic session will be as per discretion of the Principal depending upon the merit of each case. Such conversion will normally be allowed and made effective from the first day in a calendar month only and are subject to availability of seats in the Dormitories.
